The University of Pannonia, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration's successful ECoC conference application made it possible to organise the XVI. Annual Conference of the UNeECC (University Network of the European Capitals of Culture) in Veszprém, between 27 and 29 September 2023. The Secretariat of the international network has been hosted by the University of Pannonia from spring 2021.
This year's conference was titled Cultur(E)scapes - Innovation in Culture and Beyond. On the first day of the event, the PhD Workshop and the ECoC Monitoring Workshop took place in the Pannon Community HUB. PhD students received professional advice on their research and publication opportunities. On the second day, in the Conference Centre of the University of Pannonia, the opening was followed by the plenary lectures, and then by two parallel sessions on four topics: Digital E-spaces in Culture, Shared Cultural Responsibilities, Cultural Land(e)scape, Land(e)scapes in Tourism. The Thursday day was closed with a musical gala dinner. On Friday, the renewed Laczkó Dezső Museum was the venue for five presentations in the morning, followed by a round table discussion. Afterwards, the guests had the opportunity to visit the Egry 140 exhibition. The famous, Hungarian József Egry is the painter of Lake Balaton. Finally, the participants got to know the city on a sightseeing tour entitled 'Veszprém, the musical jewellery box', highlighting the developments and projects of the VEB2023 ECoC.
The interdisciplinary international conference attracted more than sixty participants from 24 countires from all over Europe and Asia. Researchers from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Pannonia and staff from the Rector's Office also presented their ECoC-related research results.
Next year's UNeECC Annual Conference will take place in Timisoara, organised by a consortium of four universities from Timisoara.
